Star Alliance has a vast network of partners. Currently, there are 26 airlines in the alliance: Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, ANA (All Nippon Airways), Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Copa Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Egyptair, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines), Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Swiss, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways International, Turkish Airlines, and United.
If you are a member of any airline frequent flyer program that is a Star Alliance member, you will be able to earn miles or points with all member airlines, as well as use miles with partners when booking an award flight. Plus, a frequent flyer membership allows you to receive Star Alliance benefits and privileges.
Star Alliance frequent fliers can earn any of two elite statuses: Gold Status or Silver Status. When you earn a status with a partner airline, you get a corresponding status with Star Alliance. Each status unlocks an additional set of benefits and perks. Thus, Silver members get access to priority reservation waitlist and priority airport stand-by. Gold status members get all the perks of the Silver status plus access to Gold Track priority lanes, extra baggage allowance, priority boarding, airport lounge access, priority baggage handling, and priority airport check-in.
Star Alliance has a big network of lounges with over 1,000 airport lounges around the world. Those include partner airline-branded lounges and dedicated Star Alliance airport lounges. Star Alliance branded lounges are located in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, and Amsterdam. Star Alliance Gold members can visit lounges with a Star Alliance Gold logo before their flight operated by a Star Alliance member airline. If you do not have a status but travel on a member airline in international First Class or Business Class, you can still get access to a Star Alliance lounge.
