January 2025: Rewards Credit and Prepaid Cards for Limited Credit
A credit card with rewards is one of the most desirable credit cards. You can earn cash back, bonus points or bonus miles. But you shouldn't forget that rewards you can get depend on your credit history. No wonder that the biggest rewards get those who have perfect credit scores. Most credit issuers start reward their customers when they have fair credit history. If you have no credit or your credit is bad, it may be difficult to find a credit card with rewards. Here are credit and prepaid cards from our partners that offer rewards to people with poor credit.

My credit score is poor. Which credit card will raise my credit scores quickly?

CREDIT CARDS
When you are choosing a rewards credit card you should make sure you will get the most out of it. That's why it is good to consider your spending behavior before you apply for the card. The cash back rewards credit cards are the simplest and most straightforward, while point or miles credit cards can be more rewarding. But you definitely won't need a miles rewards credit card if you do not fly a lot, you simply won't use all the perks the card offers and big rewards will pass you by.
Another important thing to consider is rewards program rules. Some cards cap the amount of rewards you can earn and others have expiration dates on points. If you choose a rewards credit card with sign up bonuses, you may need to spend a certain amount in a period of time to qualify for that bonus. Some cash back credit cards may have rotating categories you need to enroll in order to earn more cash back or you will be able to earn cash back in one or two shopping categories only while other purchases won't save you anything. For example, gas cards for bad credit often allow earning rewards on gas purchases only.
While you are chasing rewards do not forget that a rewards credit card is still a credit card. That means you should adhere to a plan of paying off your entire balance every month. Plus it will be good for your limited credit: you will be able to level it up to fair credit and further up to excellent credit. When you keep a balance, you do not get the most out of your rewards and pay high interest rate. Missing a payment won't be good as well because you can forfeit rewards you've earned and lower your credit score. The same thing is true for long periods of inactivity on your card - you may lose the rewards you've earned.
Read the rewards program rules and make some calculations to be sure you will be able to reap big rewards.
