Tangerine:
Being Not Like the Others
Tangerine is a leading direct bank in Canada. Being a direct bank means there are no branches. It was founded in 1997 by ING Group and was originally named as ING Direct Canada. The bank was acquired by Scotiabank in 2012 and then renamed.
Today Tangerine banking services are offered online and therefore they are cheaper. Tangerine lines of credit come with lower rates and less fees. Thus, the Tangerine Money-Back credit card has a relatively low interest rate of 19.95%, including on cash advances.
Also, the Tangerine MasterCard credit card is a rewards credit card. The card gives 2% cash back in specific categories and 1% on all other purchases. While there is no limit on the amount of cash back you can earn, there is another restriction. You can choose only two shopping categories to earn 2% cash back. If you deposit your cash back rewards to your Tangerine Savings Account, you will be allowed to get one more 2% cash back category.
Since the Tangerine Bank card is a MasterCard credit card, it also comes with some MasterCard benefits. The MasterCard benefits include MasterCard Zero Liability and MasterCard Tap & Go™. Another good Tangerine card benefit is Apple Pay. You can add your Tangerine Money-Back card to the Wallet app on your Apple device and use Apple Pay pretty much everywhere.
