Credit card security and protection is very important these days where there are a lot of card related scams and the threat of cyber thieves on the prowl. There are some good habits which can help you stay safe as far as credit card frauds are concerned. It is also about doing the right things at the right time.

Cards with 24 X 7 monitoring

Top companies like Visa and MasterCard offer 24 X 7 monitoring of your credit card expenses. You need to opt for this facility to ensure that there are no fraud expenses on your credit card. When you stay in a particular location and always fill gas from the same gas station, the monitoring alert will inform you the moment the card has been swiped at another gas station. It could be a false alarm but it could come handy in some situations, especially when your card has been stolen.

Lost card replacement

A lot of reputed credit card companies will offer you lost card replacement feature. To utilize it you need to be aware of their hotline number. When you lose your wallet or your card is stolen while you are on a vacation, you need to inform the customer service through hotline as quickly as possible. This will ensure that the card is blocked almost immediately and there is no misuse of your credit card.

Check your monthly bills thoroughly

Don’t pay your credit card bills blindly. There is liability insurance wherein, you can deny certain charges on your credit card, if they are fraud expenses that you are not involved in. This way you will be aware of events where your card has been used for expenses that you are not aware of. This is quite important as the card information might have been compromised and your awareness in such issues is extremely important. It will also save you, your hard money that will be wasted on fraud expenses.

Be careful where you use card information

Confidential information about your credit card, such as the pin numbers shouldn’t be given away to anyone. Sometimes fraudsters make calls and ask for such information, by misleading you that they work for your mobile network, for example. Never ever give away your confidential credit card pin numbers as authentic personnel are strictly prohibited from asking for such information from the customers. Be careful about the sites where you go for online transactions and look for https, secure mode before making card payments.
