Is it possible to get a free credit report?

The content is accurate at the time of publication and is subject to change.

Federal law mandates that every consumer have the opportunity to get a copy of their credit report for free each year from each of the major credit bureaus. These are:

  • Equifax
  • TransUnion
  • Experian

When you go to you will be taken through the process of entering your information at each credit bureau’s own site and getting your credit report from each one. It’s a good idea to print out each report so you can easily go over the detailed information in each one and verify that it is correct.

It is important to know that you will not be given your credit score during this process; you will only be able to look at your credit reports. To find out your actual credit score, you will have to pay a small fee or sign up for a credit protection service.
