Chase announced the first quarter of its 5% cash back calendar, and Freedom credit card members can now activate bonus categories for the first quarter.
Chase Freedom®* (no longer available for new applications) and Chase Freedom Flex®* credit card holders will be able to earn 5% cash back on purchases at wholesale clubs, internet, cable, and phone services, and select streaming services. All earnings in bonus categories of the 5% cash back calendar are capped at $1,500 in combined purchases made from January 1 through March 31, 2021. Once the limit is reached, cardmembers will continue earning 1% back in those categories.
The select streaming services category includes subscriptions with these merchants: Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Netflix, Sling, Vudu, Fubo TV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube TV. The wholesale clubs' merchants are COSTCO.COM, BJ'S, SAM'S CLUB, TEXAS JASMINE (gas, fuel, wholesale specialty service purchases such as travel, insurance, cell phone, and home improvement are excluded).
The activation of the 5% bonus categories is already open, so cardmembers can plan their purchases ahead. The activation for the first quarter categories ends on March 14, 2021.
Here are the categories of the 2020 Chase Freedom cash back calendar:
- Jan.-March 2020: gas stations, internet, cable and phone services, and select streaming services
- April-June 2020: grocery stores, fitness club and gym memberships, and select streaming services
- July-Sept. 2020: Amazon.com and whole foods market
- Oct.-Dec. 2020: Walmart and PayPal
