News: Discover's 5% Bonus Categories for Q2 2025: Activate Now - Credit-Land.com

Discover's bonus categories for the second quarter of 2025 come in handy with today's cost of groceries, and especially eggs. From April 1 through June 30, 2025, qualifying Discover cardholders can earn 5% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs on up to $1,500 in purchases (activation required).

Activation for the second quarter is already open, and cardholders of the Discover it® Cash Back and Discover it® Student Cash Back credit cards can log in and activate new categories to ensure seamless earning of elevated cash back. Cardholders will be able to activate new categories any time during the second quarter.

Here are more details about the 5% categories in Q2:

  • Grocery Stores: this category includes purchases made at supermarkets, meat lockers, bakeries, smaller grocery stores, and grocery delivery services. Purchases made from Walmart or Target are not eligible. Purchases from convenience stores and discount stores may not qualify.
  • Wholesale Clubs: this category includes purchases made at wholesale clubs that accept Discover cards. So, please check with your wholesale clubs to make sure they accept Discover. Purchases of affiliated wholesale club services, such as delivery services, travel, and cell phone purchases, may not be eligible in this category. Also, individual merchants and stand-alone stores within physical wholesale club locations, or online, may not be eligible in this category.

While the first quarter is not over, you still have time to earn 5% cash back in Q1 categories: restaurants, home improvement stores, and select streaming services. Eligible cardholders have time until March 31, 2025. Earnings are capped at $1,500 in purchases, as usual.

Those who do not have an eligible Discover credit card can apply for one now and earn elevated cash back in categories throughout the rest of the year.
