News: Discover's 5% Bonus Categories For Q1 2025 - Credit-Land.com

Discover revealed bonus categories for the first quarter of 2025 to help you start off the new year with savings. From January 1 and through March 31, 2025, you can earn 5% cash back at restaurants, home improvement stores, and select streaming services on up to $1,500 in purchases when you activate.

To start earning 5% back on bonus categories, you need to have a qualifying credit card - the Discover it® Cash Back or the Discover it® Student Cash Back - and to activate bonus categories each quarter. If you already have a qualifying Discover credit card, you can activate Q1 categories now and start earning elevated cashback at restaurants, home improvement stores and on select streaming services.

Note that 5% cash back is limited to $1,500 in purchases, which translated in up to $75 cash back each quarter. Once you reach the quarterly limit, you will continue earning 1% cash back in bonus categories and on all other purchases.

Restaurants and home improvement stores were bonus categories in 2024 - in the first and second quarters, respectively. Streaming services appeared in bonus categories in the first quarter of 2023.

Here is an overview of Discover's Q1 2025: January 1 through March 31:

  • Restaurants: purchases made at merchants classified as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias, fast-food locations, caterers, and restaurant delivery services. Restaurants located inside of or affiliated with another business, such as hotels or retail stores and establishments classified as a bakery, may not qualify.
  • Home Improvement Stores: online and in store purchases at home improvement retail stores, building supply stores (e.g. lumber, paint, and hardware stores), as well as lawn, nursery, and garden supply stores. Purchases made through third parties, such as contractors, may not qualify. Purchases from home furnishings, home appliance, and floor covering stores are not included.
  • Select Streaming Services: Amazon Music, Amazon Prime Video, AMC+, Apple Music, Apple TV, Audible, DirecTV Stream, FUBO, Google Play Music and Video, Max, iHeartRadio, MLB.TV, Netflix, Pandora, Paramount Plus, Peacock, Showtime, SiriusXM, Sling TV, Spotify, Starz, Vudu, YouTube Music, YouTube Premium, and YouTube TV. Other popular streaming services may be included.
