News: Earn 5% Cash Back In New Categories With Discover and Chase Cards In Q4 2026 - Credit-Land.com

If you have the Discover it® Cash Back card or the Chase Freedom Flex® card*, the new rotating categories for the 4th quarter have been revealed.

Discover's 5% Cashback Bonus® categories include restaurants, entertainment, and utilities. These new categories will earn a 5% Cashback Bonus from October 1 to December 31, 2026, on up to $1,500 in purchases. Eligible cardmembers just need to activate them to earn elevated cash back. The activation is already open, so cardmembers can log in to their Discover account to activate.

Here are more details about the new Discover 5% cash back categories:

  • Restaurants: purchases include those made at merchants classified as full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias, fast-food locations, and caterers. Restaurants located inside of or affiliated with another business, such as hotels or retail stores, and establishments classified as a bakery may not qualify.
  • Entertainment: purchases include ticket purchases at movie theaters, sports promoters (professional and semi-professional live events), theatrical promoters, concert promoters, amusement parks, tourist attractions, aquariums, zoos, dance halls, record stores, video rental locations, pool halls and bowling alleys. Tickets for or fees at golf courses, country clubs, some collegiate sporting events, charitable events, as well as cable and digital streaming and subscription services, amusement park tickets purchased on third-party sites, and entertainment and resort packages categorized as "travel" or "hotel" do not qualify.
  • Utilities: purchases include purchases for residential electricity, natural gas, and water service. Purchases made over the phone or online for internet, cable, satellite TV, and mobile and landline phone service also included. Purchases at physical retail stores for internet, cable, satellite, and mobile and landline phone service do not qualify. Purchases made through third parties, such as through a landlord, property management company, or homeowners association, may not qualify. Purchases for home fuel delivery, standalone streaming services, some satellite phone and internet service, vehicle connectivity, accessories, or equipment may not qualify.

Chase Freedom Flex cardholders will earn 5% cash back on purchases (on up to $1,500 in combined purchases) in the following categories: dining, grocery stores (excluding Walmart® and Target®), and American Red Cross. These new categories will be around from October 1 through December 31, 2026. Cardmembers can already log in to their Chase accounts or visit Chasebonus.com to activate new categories.

The Chase Freedom Flex card already earns 3% cash back on dining (1% base cash back + 2% bonus cash back), including takeout and delivery services. With the additional cash-back bonus (1% base + 4% bonus), cardholders will earn 7% total cash back on dining spending made from October 1 through December 31, 2026.
