News: Marriott Goes High Tech With Apple Pay - Credit-Land.com

Marriott International, Inc. is upping their game by adding Apple Pay into their portfolio of payment options, making them the first hotel chain to do so. They will be rolling it out in phases over the summer at specific hotels across the U.S. Some of the hotels that will be accepting Apple Pay include Marriott Hotels, the Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance Hotels.

People who book their stay at participating Marriott Hotels can use their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to check in and pay when they arrive using a contactless reader. When their device connects with the reader they will feel a very subtle vibration, which will let them know that the system has captured their payment information and they are checked in.

When the Apple Watch is rolled out in April, people will also be able to use it to check in and pay too.

Mobile Powered Marriott

Linking up with Apple Pay is part of Marriott’s ongoing efforts to provide their customers with more mobile booking and payment options. "Approximately 75 percent of our guests travel with one or more mobile devices, and it is even higher among 25-35 year olds – a group that will make up a much larger proportion of our guests over the next three years," said George Corbin, senior vice president, Marriott Digital.

Marriott began offering their customers mobile check-in and check-out options on their app in 2013, which can be used at 4,000 hotels around the world. The app can also be used to find and book rooms, as well as keep track of their Marriott Rewards account information.

Marriott International is a worldwide hotel chain based in Bethesda, Maryland. They have 4,100 properties located in 79 countries and territories in their portfolio, which includes eleven hotel brands.
