News: United Gives More Miles To MileagePlus Credit Cardholders - Credit-Land.com

Starting April 2, United is changing how miles are earned on flights. They are also making changes to how award travel is priced. All these changes are particularly beneficial for United credit card members.

These are bad news for MileagePlus® members and good news for MileagePlus members who also have a United MileagePlus® credit card. Thus, members of the United loyalty program without a United credit card will earn fewer miles, whereas members with a United credit card will earn up to twice as many miles as non-cardholders. For example, if you buy a ticket on or after April 2, as a general member without a United credit card, you will earn 3 miles, whereas cardmembers will earn up to 11 total miles per dollar spent with a United credit card; Premier 1K® members without a credit card will earn 9 miles per dollar, and those with a United credit card will earn up to 17 total miles per dollar.

The heist earnings on eligible United flights can be received by MileagePlus® Premier 1K® members with the United Club℠ Card. Those who have the no-annual-fee United Gateway℠ Card will need to spend at least $10,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year to start earning at cardmember rates.

You can go to united.com/mpnews to see details of the new mileage accrual rates and use the United mile calculator to see how many miles you can earn on your future flights based on status - and how many more miles you could earn by being a United cardholder.

The other two benefits include discounts on every award flight and expanded Saver Awards. Thus, United cardholders will get at least 10% off every United flight award ticket they book, and cardholders who are MileagePlus Premier® members will save at least 15%. Additionally, United is also giving general MileagePlus members who have a United credit card access to Saver Award inventory in United Polaris® Business Class that was previously only available to Platinum and 1K members.
