As you say, you do not fly Southwest often, so you do not spend a lot on Southwest flights, so the Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority credit card may not be the best choice for you. This card offers good rewards on Southwest and Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases – 2x points, but only 1 point on all other purchases. This card comes with $149 annual fee that is worth paying if you use travel benefits this card offers – 4 upgraded boardings per year when available, 20% back on in-flight purchases and other.

If you do not want to pay annual fee, we recommend you consider general travel rewards credit cards. These cards offer good rewards rate on all purchases and allow you to redeem your rewards for any airline you want. If you need specifics, the good example is the Discover it® Miles credit card. You will earn unlimited 1.5x miles on all purchases and all the miles you’ve earned at the end of your first year will be matched (if you are a new cardmember). For example, if you earn 30,000 miles, you get 60,000 miles. This card also comes with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee.

So, if Southwest is your favorite airline, the Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority credit card comes with good benefits for travel. If not, apply for a general travel rewards credit card.
