There are two versions of Amazon Prime credit cards that differ mainly in where you can use the card and the type of rewards they offer.
Synchrony Bank offers the Amazon Store Card*, which is limited to use within Amazon and its associated brands. The card earns 5% back with eligible Prime membership and comes with a welcome bonus of $10 Amazon Gift Card instantly once approved for the card.
The open-loop Prime Visa offered by Chase offers 5% cash back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases, an Amazon gift card when you are approved, and the ability to use your cash back when you shop at Amazon (provided you have Prime membership).
The card also has other perks, including 2% cash back on dining, gas stations and transportation purchases. Other benefits include extended warranty protection, purchase protection and plenty of travel perks, like no foreign transaction fees and select travel insurance coverages. For sure, it's hard to beat the earning potential of the Amazon Visa* and Prime Visa for making Amazon purchases.
However, Amazon's Prime Visa isn't the only card to offer 5% cash back on purchases. The no annual fee Discover it® Cash Back does too. The card offers to earn up to 5% cash back in rotating categories and 1% cash back on all other purchases. Note that you need to activate 5% cash back rewards to be able to earn additional cash back in rotating categories. Category earnings are capped at $1,500 in total category spendings and you will continue earning 1% cash back when you exceed the cap. All your first-year earnings will be matched at the end of your first year (provided you are a new cardmember). So, basically you can maximize your spendings to get as much cash back as you can for the first year.
