The Baggage allowance for Delta Delta credit card depends on the SkyMiles Credit Card you have. You will receive your first bag free on delta flights booked with either of the SkyMiles credit cards below:

  • Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card;
  • Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card; or
  • Delta Reserve Credit Card.

This benefit can be used for bags that are not overweight or oversize. According to Delta’s applicable rules, your first bag should be under 50 lbs. (23 kg), if you want to receive it for free.

If you do not have a credit card with free bag on Delta, but you are a Delta SkyMiles Medallion member with at least Silver status, you will get your first checked bag free at 70 pounds for bag.

If you are not a member of the loyalty program, Delta free bags will be available on select destinations only. However, you can still avoid baggage fees if you are not a happy owner of a Delta SkyMiles credit card with first bag free. You can use a regular credit card to pay baggage fees, to earn rewards, and then erase those fees using the card’s rewards. For example, it can be the Discover it® Miles credit card. It allows to earn 1.5 miles on all purchases. Miles never expire and never devaluate. You can use miles as statement credits towards travel purchases, or you can simply redeem them for cash and use for whatever you want. The card has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. More than that, if you buy a Delta ticket using the Discover it® Miles card, you can redeem the accumulated Discover miles towards the full ticket cost or just a part of it.
