News: American Express and Marriott Revamp their Credit Cards - Credit-Land.com

Marriott has rebooted their rewards program, and with the launch of the new Marriott Bonvoy rewards program comes the rebranding of their American Express credit cards. The cards new names and new designs will be rolled out on February 13th. They also come along with new benefits and perks which will be released throughout 2019.

There are three credit cards in the American Express and Marriott line up, and they all will have new names:

  • The Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury Card will become the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card.
  • The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express is being rebooted as the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card.
  • The Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express will be known as the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card.

Some new benefits for consumer cards

The new benefits for all three of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Cobrand credit cards include getting 15 Elite Night Credit every year.

That said starting on March 28, 2019 people with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card can use a $100 property credit and an exclusive code that gives them a reduced rate when they are booking a stay at Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis properties. These new benefits are only good for stays lasting two days or more.

With this card, people already earn 6X points when booking stays at Marriott Bonvoy properties, as well as triple points when eating out in the U.S and on domestic flights as long as they book their tickets with the airline. They also get up to $300 in statement credits on purchases made at Marriott hotels. Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status is also included in this package along with a free night and Priority Pass membership. The annual fee is $450 a year.

That said starting February 12th they are no longer taking applications for the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Card, but existing cardholders will still be able to earn rewards and take advantage of the card's benefits.

Business card benefits

What about the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card? There are some additional benefits being added to this cards package as well, including getting an extra free night every year with a spend of $60,000.

Here too cardholders earn 6x points when staying at Marriott Bonvoy properties, but they also earn quadruple points when eating out at restaurants, pulling up to the gas station, and paying for wireless service and shipping.

They also get a free night every year, along with Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite Status. The annual fee for this card will go up to $125 starting on March 28th.
