The American Express® Green Card celebrates its 50th anniversary with new rewards and travel benefits.
American Express has given a makeover to one of its classic cards - the American Express Green Card. The card previously offered 2x points on travel booked through amextravel.com, but now it will reward cardholders with 3x points on travel (including transit purchases) and on restaurant purchases worldwide. All other purchases will continue earning 1x Membership Rewards® points.
This rewards earning refresh was surely aimed at eager travelers who often find themselves dining out. But Amex did not stop there. The Green from Amex also comes with a welcome bonus offer - 30,000 Membership Rewards points for spending $2,000 in the first three months.
Other treats from Amex come in the form of benefits. Here is a list of the benefits offered:
- $100 CLEAR Credit. CLEAR® helps to get through security faster at select airports and stadiums nationwide. The cardholders can receive up to $100 per calendar year in statement credits for their CLEAR membership.
- $100 LoungeBuddy Credit. LoungeBuddy allows to book lounge access and the Green card offers reimburse for that. The cardholders are offered up to $100 in statement credits per calendar year for LoungeBuddy purchases.
- Payment and Purchase Flexibility: Now Green cardholders can pay the card balance in full or carry it with interest on eligible charges, up to their Pay Over Time limit. Also, there is the option to spend beyond the available credit limit. Everything that is spend beyond the limit will be included in the minimum due each month.
- No Foreign Transaction Fees: There are no foreign transaction fees with the Green card.
The American Express® Green Card comes with a higher annual fee now which is not even waived for the first year - the $150 annual fee. However, the fee can actually be fully compensated if the Green cardholders will use offered benefits.
