News: Barclays Aviator Cardholders Transitioning to Citi AAdvantage - Credit-Land.com

In 2024, Citi announced that it would acquire Barclays' suite of AAdvantage credit cards, and it planned to move existing Barclays AAdvantage cardholders to Citi products in 2026. Citi has eventually become the exclusive issuer for American Airlines credit cards and revealed the dates of the long-expected transition.

Starting April 24, 2026, holders of Barclays AAdvantage® Aviator® credit cards will be officially transitioned to the equivalent Citi® / AAdvantage® credit cards. Citi will become an exclusive credit card partner of the American Airlines AAdvantage program as of that date.

While the transition begins on April 24, it won't happen instantly. It will take time for cardholders to receive their new Citi cards. Citi will begin mailing cards on April 27, and it may take up to eight weeks for you to receive your new card.

Here is a list of Barclays AAdvantage cards and their corresponding Citi AAdvantage card:

  • AAdvantage® Aviator® Silver World Elite Mastercard®* will be transitioned to Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard®
  • AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard®* will be transitioned to Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®*
  • AAdvantage® Aviator® Blue World Elite Mastercard®* will be transitioned to Citi® / AAdvantage® Gold World Elite Mastercard®*
  • AAdvantage® Aviator® World Elite Mastercard®* will be transitioned to American Airlines AAdvantage® MileUp® Mastercard®*
  • AAdvantage® Aviator® World Elite Business Mastercard®* will be transitioned to Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard®.

Barclays AAdvantage credit cards will continue to work until you activate your new Citi AAdvantage credit card.

Those who have Barclays Aviator credit cards should have received emails with detailed information about the upcoming transition. Check your emails to make sure you are prepared for a smooth transition.
