News: Citi Discontinued Its Person-To-Person Points Sharing - Credit-Land.com

Citi cardholders now have one less ThankYou® Rewards redemption option. The benefit of Points Sharing was sunset on May 17.

The Points Sharing benefit allowed eligible Citi cardholders to share their Citi ThankYou Rewards points with other members to unlock larger rewards like flights or hotel stays. Now it is discontinued for all credit cards that earn ThankYou Rewards points. Furthermore, this change applies to Citi's entire ThankYou Rewards ecosystem, regardless of which eligible credit card you hold.

While Citi cardholders are no longer able to send ThankYou Rewards points to or receive ThankYou Rewards points from other accounts (like friends or family members), you can still pull points across your own accounts. You can combine points earned from your multiple Citi cards into a single ThankYou Rewards account.

The removal of this feature limits how rewards can be used across accounts. Those who heavily relied on shared points to book trips or access certain redemption options were definitely affected by this change. They may want to adjust their strategies to get the most out of their ThankYou Rewards points.

So now maximizing Citi points depends more heavily on how ThankYou points are earned and managed within a single account.

Even though the Points Sharing benefit was removed, there still are plenty of ways to redeem ThankYou Rewards points. Cardmembers can transfer points to participating partners, redeem for gift cards, use ThankYou® Points as statement credits, pay with points, and more. You can see all redemption options here or sign in to your Citi account to see redemption options available to you.
