News: Chase Adds New Bonus Restrictions to Ink Business Cards - Credit-Land.com

Credit card issuers are quietly tightening the rules for earning welcome bonuses. Capital One recently introduced new rules to earn welcome bonuses for the Venture family of credit cards. This time Chase has introduced a new eligibility rule on two of its most popular small business credit cards with no annual fee.

The new rule affects eligibility for the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card* and the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card. In short, you can no longer earn the welcome bonus offer on the cards if you've ever had either of the two cards. Here are eligibility details Chase added to the terms and conditions for both cards:

  • Ink Business Cash®: "The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you have ever had this card or any other Chase for Business card without an annual fee. We may also consider factors pertinent to your business in determining your bonus eligibility."
  • Ink Business Unlimited®: "The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you have ever had this card or any other Chase for Business card without an annual fee. We may also consider factors pertinent to your business in determining your bonus eligibility."

You can still apply for either Ink Business card, even if you are not eligible for the welcome bonus. However, since many small businesses prefer having both no-annual-fee cards to maximize their rewards earnings, losing the ability to earn both bonuses makes this strategy less appealing for new applicants.

Luckily, you can still get Chase's small business credit cards with an annual fee and qualify for the welcome offer if you haven't had those cards before. Plus, you can pair your Ink Business no annual fee credit card with a premium card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve®* card, and convert your cash rewards into transferable Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
