Those who travel frequently may be considering programs that could help streamline the security check-in process. There are several programs available, and CLEAR Plus is one of them, but with a few distinguishing features that make it stand out.

CLEAR Plus is a privately owned and operated traveler program that uses biometrics to confirm your identity. When you arrive at the designated kiosk (a LEAR Plus lane), you first scan your boarding pass. Then the machine will scan your fingerprints and irises. This allows CLEAR Plus members to skip the initial TSA security line.

Until recently, CLEAR Plus membership was $209 per year. However, this cost has just got $10 more expensive. The price for the membership was increased on July 1, and the popular CLEAR Plus program now costs $219 a year.

The cost for adding friends or family remained unchanged - $125 per person. Members can add up to three adults, and kids of 17 and under can be joined for free.

You don't actually have to pay $219 per year to use CLEAR Plus services, though. There are some credit cards that can reimburse that fee every year. For example, the American Express Platinum Card®* offers CLEAR+ Credit that allows cardmembers to receive up to $209 in statement credits per calendar year after signing up and paying for a CLEAR+ membership with the card.

Members of certain airline loyalty programs can also save on CLEAR Plus membership. United MileagePlus, Delta SkyMiles, and Atmos™ Rewards all offer discounts on CLEAR Plus membership to their members, and savings increase for higher levels of elite status.
