Nothing says vacation like summertime, and 53% of Americans will be doing just that according to the new PNC Premier Traveler Visa Signature Summer Vacation Survey. While 31% will be flying, road trips are trending with travelers-60% are not booking airline tickets and instead are hopping in their cars.

Driving to their destination may be due in part to the fact that gas is cheaper this year, coming in at $2.22 per gallon on average across the nation. This may come in handy for some, especially the 76% that will be driving at least 500 miles roundtrip. But no matter how they get there, most will be booking stays in hotels for at least one night.

What World Leader Would You Vacation With?

If you’re thinking that it might be fun to vacation with the president, then you are not alone: 44% of Americans would too. But some are more finance-minded, with almost a quarter saying that they would like to travel with Warren Buffet, perhaps looking to pick his brain for investment advice.

President Obama was especially popular with Millennials (aged 25-34), with 56% wanting to fly with him. The younger generation also went with tech giants, with 36% going with Zuckerberg, 28% choosing online shopping pioneer Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, 27% loved Google co-founder Larry Page and 21% went for Apple’s Tim Cook.

When it came to political leaders right behind President Obama was Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (18%), British Prime Minister David Cameron (17 %), German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (both coming in with 15% each).

Dream vacations

What’s your dream vacation? Just about half of respondents chose a trip around the world, hitting all the sweet spots in Europe, the U.S., Asia and the Caribbean, while 40% would check out the Seven Wonders of the World, and 38% would love to jump into a private plane and travel to exotic locales in the Pacific. The more adventurous 15% chose to go off the grid choosing a trip into outer space.

What about movie buffs? They would love to check out famous film locations like New Zealand where Lord of the Rings was shot, and Hawaii where Avatar was filmed.

The PNC Premier Traveler Visa Signature Summer Vacation Survey was carried out by Harris Poll between April 29 and May 3. They spoke with 2,015 adults aged 18 and older.
