American Express and Marriott International have launched their New Starwood Preferred Guest Luxury credit card, offering cardholders 6X the points when booking stays at SPG and Marriott Rewards hotels and triple points when booking flights and eating out at restaurants. While all other purchases net them double points. They also get access to a variety of travel benefits, elite status, and a free night once a year.
There is a bonus on the table for new cardholders, who will earn 100,000 bonus points once they spend $5,000 during the first three months. This bonus is only available to cardholders who apply for the new credit card from now until October 31, 2018.
The annual fee for this card is $450.
The benefits
People with the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury card get up to $300 in credits each year. They can be used for eligible purchases at SPG or Marriott Rewards hotels.
Cardholders also get a credit to cover their Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee, along with Priority Pass Select membership.
They get automatic Gold Elite Status and can earn Platinum Elite Status after spending $75,000 with their card during the year.
A free night can be a nice perk, and cardholders get that once a year. The redemption level for that night is at or under 50,000 points.
Unified loyalty program, and a new card
The launch of this new card comes after the roll out of Marriott's unified loyalty program. The Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury card is seen as a way to provide cardholders with more value when traveling.
