News: TSA Launches "Families on the Fly" Campaign - Credit-Land.com

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently announced the launch of a new initiative - the "Families on the Fly" program. This is a dedicated security lane at every checkpoint tailored for families with children 12 and under.

The main goal of the "Families on the Fly" program is to reduce wait times for families in a security line. This will help to reduce stress for families and "enhance hospitality for families during the airport security screening experience," according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The "Families on the Fly" program also plans to offer a $15 discount to families on TSA PreCheck registration. Thus, the cost will be $85 per person as opposed to the normal $100. However, if you have the right credit card, you can avoid this fee completely.

Airports that are currently participating in the "Families on the Fly" program include Orlando (MCO) and Charlotte (CLT). These two airports are only beginning. There are plans already to open dedicated family lanes at John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California; Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu; Charleston International Airport (CHS); Jacksonville International Airport (JAX); Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD); Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Tampa International Airport (TPA).

In addition to this new perk for families, there were hints that there could be coming changes to TSA's rules regarding the amount of liquids travelers can bring in their carry-on luggage. Right now, travelers are limited to 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item, displayed in a small clear bag. Containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) must go in checked baggage.
