That's exactly what rewards credit cards do by giving you cash back, point rewards or miles rewards for your purchases. The point is to find the best credit card for grocery shopping that will work for you. Here's a list of credit cards that give great rewards for purchases at grocery stores.

Discover it® Miles

The Discover it® Miles credit card is an excellent option for applicants with average credit to excellent credit. The card comes with some great travel rewards and long introductory 0% APR on purchases. With every dollar spent, you get automatic 1.5 miles rewards that you can redeem for travel rewards or simply cash at any time, for any amount. All miles you've earned at the end of your first year will be matched (provided you are a new cardmember). That means if you've earned 50,000 miles, Discover will turn them into 100,000 miles! In addition, you get a 14-months 0% intro APR on purchases on top of a $0 annual fee. When the introductory rate is over, a go-to APR of 14.24% - 25.24% Variable will apply.

Capital One® SavorOne℠ Cash Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One® SavorOne℠ Cash Rewards Credit Card will fit grocery shoppers and gourmet well as it gives good rewards for dining – 3% cash back - and grocery store purchases – 2% cash back. You won’t need to sign-up to earn those big cash back rewards. If you put other purchases on the card, they will earn a standard 1% cash back per dollar spent. To sweeten the offer, you can earn a one-time $150 cash bonus for spending $500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. It will be quite easy though, because the card comes with 15 months of 0% intro APR on purchases. But remember that when the zero interest period is over an ongoing APR of of 16.24% - 26.24% (Variable) will apply. So, if you want to get the maximum out of the offer, try to clear the balance by the end of the introductory period and keep paying it off each month thereafter. The card has no annual fee.

American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp Card

If you have a passion for travel and food, this credit card from Citi can reward you. Since it is a co-branded airline credit card, the card will be great for American Airlines travelers. First of all, it has a sign-up bonus offer of 10,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles and allows to receive a $50 statement credit. All these bonuses will be available to you for spending $500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. A good start, isn’t it? Second, you will be able to earn 2 miles per dollar spent at grocery stores, 2 miles per dollar spent on American Airlines, and 1 mile per dollar on all other purchases. Not bad, considering it is an airline credit card with no annual fee.

Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card

This credit card is for those who spend a lot on dining and entertainment, which are the main rewarding categories of this card. You will earn unlimited 4% cash back on dining and entertainment. Other purchases will also earn cash back rewards: 2% at grocery stores and 1% on all other purchases. In addition to ongoing rewards, you can earn a one-time cash bonus of $500. You will need to spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening to get the bonus. As it was noted, this card for those who spend a lot as it comes with an annual fee (which is waived for the first year though).

Discover it® Cash Back

This is another Discover credit card that will also allow you to save on grocery and other credit card purchases. The card allows to earn 1% cash back on all purchases. Plus, you are given an opportunity to earn up to 5% cash back in rotating categories each quarter like gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, Amazon.com and more up to the quarterly maximum, each time you activate. All cash back you earn your first year will be matched at the end of your first year of cardmembership (provided you are a new cardmember). There is no limit to how much can be matched and no signing up is required. To sweeten the deal, the card has 14 months of 0% intro APR on purchases and no annual fee. When the introductory rate is over, a go-to APR of 14.24% - 25.24% Variable will apply.

Credit One Bank® Platinum Visa®

This option is great for grocery shoppers who have fair credit history. The Credit One Bank® Platinum Visa® card allows to earn 1% cash back on eligible purchases, including grocery purchases. Earned cash back will show up in the form of statement credit on your account. Rewards credits will apply to your balance automatically reducing the credit card balance. The annual fee is a range between $0 - $99, which means it will be determined by the bank when you apply for the card.
