That's an excellent idea since most general credit cards will offer lower interest rates. The majority of credit cards allow balance transfers, but some charge a transfer fee of around 3%. Also, many cards will offer an introductory 0% APR for balance transfers. It shouldn't be too hard to find a card that doesn't charge a transfer fee and will give you a 0% APR for the first few months.
