American Express Cardholders Get a 30% Bonus When Transferring Points to Virgin Atlantic

The content is accurate at the time of publication and is subject to change.

American Express has rolled out a new transfer bonus, allowing cardholders to earn up to 30% in bonus miles when transferring their points to Virgin Atlantic, so they can book flights with the carrier. For cardholders this means that 1000 points equals 1,300 miles and 2,000 points would be 2,600 miles, and so on. This offer is only good between now and July 1, 2019.

Also, it’s important to note that people cannot end up with more 999,999 miles when they take advantage of this offer. Once cardholders make the transfer they are free to start using their miles to book flights with Virgin Atlantic.

It is important to note this offer is only available to cardholders in the United States.

Earning Points with American Express

Let’s take a look at some of the cards that can help people get American Express points and then scoop up the 30% bonus with Virgin Atlantic. With the American Express Gold Credit Card people can earn 50,000 bonus points once they spend $2,000 with their new card over the first 90 days they have their credit card. They also earn 4X points when shopping at U.S. restaurants, triple points when booking flights directly with airlines or via amextravel.com. All other purchases get them one point per dollar.

They also get a $10 dining credit every month that can be used to order food from Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and participating Shake Shack locations, as long as they use their Gold card. The annual fee for this card is $250.

On the other hand, the Platinum Card from American Express has an annual fee of $550 but it comes along with 75,000 bonus points when the new cardholders spend 5,000 during the first three months they have the card. They also earn 5X points when booking flights via American Express Travel or directly through the airlines. They do not earn these enhanced rewards when using third party sites to book flights. They also get 5X points when booking hotels and prepaying for them via amextravel.com. All other spends earn them one point per dollar.
