Now people with the British Airways Visa Signature Card can get a bit of a break when booking flights with British Airways when using Avios to pay for their flight. Cardholders can now get up to $600 in statement credits every year to cover the cost of taxes and fees, which includes surcharges on their award flights.
With this perk cardholders who book business and first-class award tickets are eligible for up to $200 in statement credits for each flight, while people who book economy and premium economy flights are eligible to get $100 in credits per flight. It is important to note that cardholders can get these statement credits on up to three award flights per year.
But that is not all they are also adding a bonus category into the mix. Cardholders keep earning three Avios per dollar they spend with British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, and LEVEL, but they will now get double points when booking stays directly from hotels. If they book flights through third-party vendors they get one point per dollar, as they do with all other purchases.
Earning up to 100,000 welcome points
With the British Airways Visa Signature credit cards, new cardholders can earn up to 100,000 Avios. How does this work? It’s pretty simple, they earn 50,000 bonus Avios once they spend $3,000 during the first three months they have their new card. They can then earn an extra 50,000 Avios when they make $20,000 worth of purchases with their card during the first year of being a cardholder.
Along the way they earn triple points when traveling with British airlines, double points when booking hotels directly from hotels and one point per dollar on everything else.
They also get 10% off British Airways flights that originate in the United States, as long as they book their flight by March 31, 2020, via the website. When traveling abroad there are no foreign traction fees to wrangle with, and the annual fee for this card is $95.
