For US residents we would recommend to apply to travel rewards credit card that will earn miles on all purchases (even when you purchase tickets form Etihad with this card). For example, consider applying to the Discover it® Miles. It gives you good 1.5 miles per dollar on all purchases and matches all miles at the end of the first year (provided you are a new cardmember), making them twice as many. Moreover, the card does not charge any annual or foreign transaction fees.
